Camping at Robert Treman

June found us camping at Robert Treman State Park, in Ithaca.

Some pics of the site:

We went hiking at nearby Buttermilk Falls
State Park because our knees heard that you could drive right to the trailhead.

Then, in a moment of madness, and because it wasn't TOO hot (HA!) we decided to take our knees up a trail that was only 1/3 of a mile.

But, the sign didn't say it was STRAIGHT UP, and STRAIGHT DOWN! VERY STEEP!

It was one of those times that I have to admit that I'm not 20 anymore. Still feeling that hike, a month later.

Silly knees.

We did see some incredibly beautiful pools and falls, though.

All of a sudden, as we struggled up the trail, what should we come upon but a naiad sitting by the streamside.

Oh, look it up, already. Wikipedia is your friend.

Also, we stumbled upon some strange old hippie dude, apparently attempting a Vulcan peace sign.

On a sticky day, the pools sure looked tempting, except for the 20 feet of slippery ledge between us and the water.

We got as far as Chimney Rock before knees insisted upon going downhill.

After our "modest" little hike, we were able to take a dip in the pool at the base of the falls, where the water is FRIGI -- er, INSTANTLY REFRESHING!

The knees liked it.

Interestingly, there was a young man there who seemed to be able to leap up out of the water and onto the diving board, while barely causing a ripple.

Amazing!

And, of course, no visit to Ithaca would be complete without a stop at the Ithaca Beer Co. MMMMmmmmm, Beeeerrrrrrr......
